The complete course includes both theory
and practical training covering three parts. Part One covers mainly the theory
aspects however, it is important to understand its relationship with the
practical aspects of driving covered in Part Two. When integrated, both parts
form a valuable teaching resource for the teaching element, Part Three.
Part One is learning about the following subjects:
1.1 Road Procedure
1.2 Traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians, mechanical knowledge
1.3 Driving test, disabilities, law
1.4 Publications, instructional techniques
The above four titles also represent four bands, a minimum 80% score for
each individual band will be necessary and 85% overall in order to achieve a
Pass in the DSA Part One examination.
The Hazard Perception Test (HPT) is an interactive test using a Computer
& Mouse.
Part Two includes theory and practical driver
training involving the development of your current driving technique.
Following an assessment of your eyesight and driving, you will receive
instruction from your trainer to correct any old habits, and furthermore, new
skills are introduced for you to practice up to an advanced driving standard.
Part Two consists of:
2.1 Eyesight Test
2.2 Handling of the car controls
2.3 Road procedure
2.4 Anticipation of other road users, judgement, consideration for the safety
of others and driver attitude.
Part Three consist of:
Theory and teaching preparation. The practical in-car training
concentrates on how to conduct driving lessons.
3.1 Teaching resources are provided and include a comprehensive training manual
and visual teaching aids*.
3.2 Preparing to teach: Sample list Training aids and how to use them,
structure of a driving lesson, lesson content, teaching styles, beginnings and
endings.
3.3 Learning and practicing how to teach a learner driver at the beginner
stage, or one with limited driving knowledge, and one at about test standard,
or alternatively a driver in posession of a full driving licence.
