Upon Driving Standards
Agency Registration
Hold a Full Driving Licence and for a minimum period of 4 years. A Full UK or
Northern Ireland unrestricted Driving Licence; (A foreign or automatic driving
licence can count towards the four-year period.) A few months short of the
minimum period? Dont worry, as we will advise you!
Points on your licence? The Driving Standards Agency has the discretion to
decide whether or not this will affect your application.
Not have any current non-motoring convictions, although motoring
convictions will also be taken into account.
Regarding the quality of your eyesight, you need to be able to read a
vehicle registration at a minimum distance of 90ft/27.5m with glasses, or
contact lenses, if worn.
Pass the Driving Standards Agency's Part Three qualifying test.
Satisfy all Driving Standards Agency requirements.
It is illegal for anyone to charge money or the equivalent in goods
and services for driving instruction unless:
Their names are on the register of Approved Driving Instructors, or they
hold a Trainees Licence to give instruction issued by the Registrar.
How soon could I start teaching?
At present and subject to certain conditions, the Driving Standards Agency
allows part qualified instructors to apply for a Trainee Licence in order to
gain teaching experience over a six month period.
Passing all three parts of the Driving Standards Agency qualifying exams
would entitle you to add after your name DSA ADI (cars). A Full Licence last
four years.
